News: Betancourt (hamstring) was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Thursday, the Kansas City Star reports.

Analysis: Incumbent shortstop Tony Pena was DFA'd on Thursday, so Betancourt will immediately take over as the starter once the Royals resume play on Friday.

News: Betancourt was benched Tuesday for failing to show up for batting practice, the Seattle Times reports.

Analysis: Tuesday's benching marks the fourth consecutive game Betancourt has ridden the pine. It started Friday in a routine day off, but Ronny Cedeno continued to start at shortstop throughout the weekend as a "reward" for working hard, manager Don Wakamatsu said. Failing to show up for BP isn't the best way to get your job back. No word when Betancourt might see the field again.
