News: Byrnes signed a one-year contract with the Mariners on Friday, the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Analysis: He'll be competing with Milton Bradley and Franklin Gutierrez for at-bats in the Mariners' outfield. Byrnes has played just 136 games over the past two seasons due to a variety of injuries, but could be a bounce-back candidate if he's able to stay healthy.

News: The D-Backs officially released Byrnes on Wednesday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: They'll be eating most of Byrnes' $11 million salary for the 2010 season. The decision to release him will open up more at-bats with the big league club, meaning that Gerardo Parra can likely collect enough at-bats as the fourth outfielder to stick around with the D-Backs all season long. Look for Byrnes to get a small contract elsewhere to compete for a spot during spring training.
