News: Cantu (neck) hopes to be ready to go for Friday's game against the Braves, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Cantu started feeling stiffness in his neck during the late innings of Wednesday's game and was forced to sit out Thursday. "It bothers me even to left my arm a little," Cantu said. That certainly doesn't sound promising, but Cantu believes that with treatment and anti-inflammatory medication, he'll be ready to go on Friday.
Saturday, August 01, 2009
News: Nick Johnson will join the Marlins on Saturday, pushing Cantu back across the diamond to third base.
Analysis: Cantu's no defensive wizard at the hot corner but he's not exactly replacing a Gold Glover in Emilio Bonifacio, and Johnson is a much better defender at first base so the net result should be an upgrade for the Marlins. Cantu will continue to hit clean-up though, and having Johnson's .400+ OBP in the two hole instead of Bonifacio's sub-.300 OBP will be a huge boost to Cantu's RBI opportunities.
