Ugliest Uniforms

Perhaps this is not the best place to pose this question, but I am curious to know other people's opinions and this is not an unfamiliar topic among sports fans.

I think the Washington Nationals have hands down the ugliest uniforms in baseball. Their home uniforms anyway. The road unis actually look pretty good although I don't like the numerals.

Anyone agree or would you vote for someone else?

I'm a nats fan and I have to defend them here, and so I believe that the nats do have bad home uniforms. But the ugliest are Toronto's. I just don't like the funny T on their hats.

It's at least good to know that a Nats fan agrees with me that they have ugly uniforms. I actually don't think the Blue Jays uniforms are bad at all.

It seems that the most consistently ranked bad uniform is the Florida Marlins which I'd also rate low.

The Tampa Bay Rays and Arizona Diamondbacks also seem to get very frequent mention and some for the Colorado Rockies. The Diamondbacks home uniforms are kind of similar to the Nationals now that I think about it.

It has to be said that MLB has gotten pretty good with uniforms and even the bad ones are not all that bad compared to atrocious stuff of the 70s and 80s.

Well you know the retro Toronto uniforms and Kansas City's too are terrible. The light blue is awful. Plus the new Mets uniforms are just Weird.

Visually I don't think their ugly, but their logo puts them at the top of the list for the worst uniform: the Cleveland Indians- enough of the cigar store, buck toothed chief wahoo crap. It downright offensive. It's an insult to the three native americans playing today: Kyle Loshe, Jacoby Ellsbury , and Joba Chamberlain. And for what? Sentimentality sake? What, it just wouldn't be the same old Indians without a symbolic nod to America's genocide. Bud Selig should ask himself this - would he wear any Indians' team gear with chief wahoo on it to a reservation?

The Jays get props for the new logo but those head to toe powder blue X-Mas morning pajamas they wear for retro and home day games...hands down the worst. However I the black tops. Mind you, this from a phillies fan, but I like the mets solid black, cobolt blue and orange tops..but no pinstripes on their whites.. Something that shouldn't be done - the cut off sleeve look - rockies, pirates, and the fish (i think the fish do this. They also need to drop the pinstripes). Big no. no's - solid top with pinstripe pants - Rox....Let's face it the A's, green and yellow...walking John Deere endorsment. Great logo though. Not their "P", but the Pittsburgh's "aargh. matey" pirate patch has gotta go, mostly because it so poorly drawn. Most improved of the last few years...the D-Backs...they no longer look like a Tex-Mex menu....Also, the Brewers ... good colors, refined lettering ...they look an old can of miller lite.

The Blue Jays powder blues are ugly. But I give them a break since those are throwbacks and not their official uniforms. I guess they are trying to bring back some memories with those since the good days are gone.

Funny thing is, I used to like the Blue Jays uniforms back in the 80s. But those were bad times for uniforms so they looked good by comparison. Strange that the powder blue was so popular in the 70s and 80s. The Royals, Rangers, Brewers, Cards, Braves and Blue Jays all had ugly powder blues and probably some that I haven't thought of. They were pretty popular. Don't know what that was all about.

One thing I don't like is all these dark alternate uniforms. Pick a home and road uniform and stick with it. If you like the alternate jersey, make it your road uniform. Some of them look pretty good so they should just stick with them.

So...no one hates the Padres' jerseys as much as I do? They wear camo sometimes, for goodness' sake! And gold away jerseys? Yeesh.

Oh, those camos are definitely the worst. I just saw them again the other day and thought about this post. Glad you included them.

The Blue Jays should shoot whoever designed their current uniforms. They're bland, uninspired, and just ugly in general. The away Twins uni is pretty bad with the pinstripes too.

I hate for this to be my first post but...

SOMEBODY CALL THE WAAAHMBULANCE. Do you have anything better to do then to feel guilty and horrible over something you have no control over? Do you sit in your bed at night chewing your nails down to the cuticles over what the Washington Redskins call themselves? Do the Florida State Seminoles get your toes to curl? Or how about the Iowa Hawkeyes? The Indianapolis Indians?

You live a stressful life buddy.

    Nah, it's time.

Chief Wahoo remains embarrassing. The Tomahawk Chop remains embarrassing. The only reason people haven't gotten these relics consigned to the dustbin of history is that native Americans are such a small minority that people feel they don't have to care what they think.

Granted I'm not the only one with an opinion on this, but if it were up to me, Cleveland would take one of their old team names (my preference is for the Cy Young era Cleveland team name, the Cleveland Spiders), and Atlanta would take one of their old team names (my preference would be for the Bees, as that might work well with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets already in town).

    You forgot Brian Sanches...

And I may sound like a homer being a Marlins fan myself, but honestly I love their uniforms and don't think their ugly at all. Mostly the home with pinstripes and the black uni's are the two I really like, I could care less for the gray ones though.

I have to go with the Rockies' softball jerseys.

With regard to the Indians debate:

I don't feel that the name "Indians" is offensive. However, the caricature of Chief Wahoo is downright offensive. So is the name "Redskins." On one hand you have a gross stereotype; on the other, you have an ethnic slur.

Definitely gotta be the Rockies, Marlins and D-Backs. Memo to uniform designers: if you're not the Yankees or Tigers, don't try to pull off the pinstripes. It will only end in scorn and mockery.

The Mets deserve a mention as well for stubbornly sticking with the black.

Regarding the "Indians" debate...I mostly oppose the Indians name because it feeds into the Chief Wahoo stuff. But of course, the team was named this to honor an actual Native American who played for Cleveland named Louis Sockalexis, so it can be argued that the name itself is "meant well", even if it is a bit archaic to refer to a Native American as an "Indian".
