I am in a keeper fantasy league and I have to keep either Brett Anderson or Brian Matusz. I am unsure which of the two to keep as I'm not sure who will have the better career. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Also please tell me why you chose one over the other. Thanks.

I haven't seen either one of them pitch, so I'm not sure if I'm truely qualified to answer this. Using the stats, I'd say Anderson is probably the safer pick, though I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Anderson has proven he can pitch in the majors the whole year, while Matusz only had 8 big-league starts. Anderson has better stuff (tick higher velocity and dominant slider), while Matusz doesn't seem to have a go-to secondary pitch.

Possibly the 2 biggest advantages for Anderson are non-talent reasons: ballpark and division. Anderson gets to pitch half his games in Oakland, which helps the ERA immensely and he plays in the West division. Matusz plays in bandbox Camden Yards and has to face the Red Sox, Yankees, and Rays for about 1/3 of his starts.

One thing that worries me about Anderson is the fact that he threw his dominant slider around 30% of the time, which is a great precursor towards injury. That one drawback, in my opinion, does not outweigh the other strengths I pointed out.
