Despite having a career just as good as Barry Larkin's, Alan Trammell will probably never make the Hall of Fame because, unlike Larkin, he was roughly contemporary with obvious greatness in Cal Ripken. The same thing happened to third basemen Buddy Bell in the 1970s. He was having a heck of a run, but just happened to be in his prime as Mike Schmidt and George Brett. These things happen.
