Around the Majors: Diamondbacks sign Glaus

1) The Diamondbacks signed free agent 3B Troy Glaus to a 4 year, $45 million contract.

After 15 RCAA/.805 OPS and 8 RCAA/.807 OPS seasons, Glaus hit .575 SLG, .355 OBA, .930 OPS, 9 RCAA in 58 games. He has spent his entire career with the Angels and has a .854 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and 89 RCAA in 827 games.

2) The Dodgers signed free agent 2B Jeff Kent to a 2 year, $17 million contract.

After 46 RCAA/.933 OPS and 13 RCAA/.860 OPS seasons, Kent hit .531 SLG, .348 OBA, .880 OPS, 12 RCAA in 145 games with the Astros. He has a .858 career OPS, compared to his league average of .769, and 237 RCAA in 1777 games.

3) The Whitesox signed free agent RF Jermaine Dye to a 2 year, $10.15 million contract, with an option for 2007.

After 0 RCAA/.813 OPS and -20 RCAA/.514 OPS seasons, Dye hit .464 SLG, .329 OBA, .793 OPS, -2 RCAA in 137 games with the A’s. He has a .797 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and 5 RCAA in 1039 games.

5) The Angels are reportedly about to sign free agent CF Steve Finley.

6) According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the A’s and Braves are discussing a Tim Hudson for Marcus Giles and a pitching prospect trade.

7) The Braves re-signed free agent 1B Julio Franco to a 1 year, $1 million contract.

After -4 RCAA/.739 OPS and 3 RCAA/.824 OPS seasons, Franco hit .441 SLG,. 378 OBA, .818 OPS, 6 RCAA in 125 games. He has a .785 career OPS, compared to his league average of .742, and 140 RCAA in 2269 games.

8) The Padres signed free agent 2B-OF Eric Young to a 1 year, $1 million contract, with an option for 2006, and designated P Mike Bynum for assignment.

After -8 RCAA/.707 OPS and -10 RCAA/.727 OPS seasons, Young hit .381 SLG, .377 OBA, .758 OPS, -6 RCAA in 104 games with the Rangers. He has a .753 career OPS, compared to his league average of .770, and -58 RCAA in 1614 games.

Bynum has a 7.73 ERA/-28 RSAA in 29 career games, including a 54.00 ERA/-4 RSAA in 2 games in 2004.

9) According to the Toronto Sun, the BlueJays are interested in Pirates RF Craig Wilson and free agents 1B Tony Clark and 3B Corey Koskie.

10) According to the Seattle Times, the Mariners made an offer to free agent 3B Adrian Beltre.

11) According to the Houston Chronicle, the Astros are interested in Devil Rays RF Jose Cruz Jr.

12) The Pirates signed 1B Damon Minor, 1B-3B Jose Leon, Cs Carlos Maldonado and Rodolfo Pena and Ps Mark Corey and Joe Roa to minor league contracts.

Minor has -1 RCAA/.738 OPS in 136 career games, including a .276 SLG, .405 OBA, .681 OPS, -2 RCAA in 24 games with the 2004 Giants.

Leon has -16 RCAA/.583 OPS in 88 career games, including a .303 SLG, .203 OBA, .506 OPS, -10 RCAA in 31 games with the 2004 Orioles.

Corey has a 6.02 ERA/-18 RSAA in 81 career games, including a 4.54 ERA/-2 RSAA in 31 games with the 2004 Pirates.

Roa has a 4.94 ERA/-21 RSAA in 120 career games, including a 4.50 ERA/2 RSAA in 48 games with the 2004 Twins.

13) According to the Fort Worth Telegram, the Rangers are interested in free agents 1B Carlos Delgado, 3B Joe Randa and RF Richard Hidalgo.

14) The Yankees named Neil Allen bullpen coach.

15) The Yankees signed P Brad Voyles to a minor league contract.

Voyles has a 6.59 ERA/-11 RSAA in 40 career games.

16) The A’s signed P Jimmy Serrano to a minor league contract.

Serrano had a 4.68 ERA/-1 RSAA in 10 games (5 starts) with the Royals.

17) The Redsox signed P Kris Wilson to a minor league contract.

Wilson has a 5.32 ERA/-6 RSAA in 90 career games.

18) The Cardinals signed OF Brandon Berger to a minor league contract.

Berger has -14 RCAA/.646 OPS in 81 career games, including a .257 SLG, .200 OBA, .457 OPS, -5 RCAA in 11 games with the 2004 Royals.
